lettuce tomatoes carrotI have not had a piece of meat to eat in almost 40 years. What most Christians seem to miss is that vegetarianism is biblical. Honestly, that is not why I became a vegetarian all those years ago. I hesitate to share that story unless I’m pressed. Short version, a vegetarian artist friend of mine drew an extremely gross cartoon about a chicken. That night was my mother’s Monday night dinner for her grown children. She plopped a drumstick in front of me that evening and I became a vegetarian in an instant.

Gods Perfect Plan

I’ve been harassed many times. From a piece of steak to a pig’s head waved in my face. Yes, if you ride Harleys long enough you will inevitably end up at a pig roast at least once. Yuck!

After I found the Lord I encountered more and more Christians. That’s when the real harassment began. For some reason, believers were determined to convince me that God gave us animals to eat and that I was somehow sinning or at least missing out. For years I would defend myself by saying that I had made a choice and had no problem with carnivores. I hoped for the same consideration. Not.

I once had an acquaintance determined to convert me. He was basically a nice, yet annoying, Christian biker. He brought up my vegetarianism constantly as not biblical. Finally, the Lord led me to the perfect response that I could back up with scripture.

Was the Garden of Eden God’s Perfect Plan?

“Yes,” is the only biblical answer. God created Adam and Eve and placed them in the Garden. Before “the Fall,” Adam and Ever lived a perfect life; protected, provided for abundantly, and clothed in the Glory of God.

God the Father stated clearly what His creatures would eat. In the midst of Creation He made a statement.

Box of Vegetables
“Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.”   — Genesis 1:29-30

In this passage, the Father makes His will clear; no creature was created to eat another. Clearly, “…everything that has the breath of life…” covers everything from a lion, tiger or shark to a human. His plan was never for blood to be shed; for death to exist.

Then The Fall

After the big Fall, the Father acquired “skin” to clothe Adam and Eve. After that, God’s glory departed, leaving them naked. Hence, they were now ashamed of their nakedness. In other words, the first animal killed was for the sake of human feelings. Notice that there was no reference to eating the animals.

“The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. “

Genesis 3:21

My reasons for becoming a vegetarian are not biblical or political. I am not a crazed tree hugger or conservationist. I have no problem with anyone else eating meat. That said, I do believe that we have a responsibility to care for our planet. “Dominion” indicates something to care for. But eating meat is a personal decision. Most Christians continue to accept aspects of the curse that Jesus died to negate. What’s one more? But that’s another sermon.

Plans for the Future

Next, we can move on to the Father’s plans for the future. Of course, Jesus was His plan and no one screwed it up. Jesus followed the Father’s instructions and deliverance is our free gift. Another choice! But what does the future hold? That’s easy. Vegetarianism for all His creatures once again.

The bear will graze with the cow.

“The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb,
The leopard shall lie down with the young goat,
The calf and the young lion and the fatling together;
And a little child shall lead them.
The cow and the bear shall graze;
Their young ones shall lie down together;
And the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
The nursing child shall play by the cobra’s hole,
And the weaned child shall put his hand in the viper’s den.
They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain,
For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord
As the waters cover the sea.

Isaiah 11:6-9 KJV

In Conclusion

Scripture states that God the Father’s original plan for all creation was not to kill and eat meat. Above all, God definitely never intended for His children to be prey. His plan for the future is to return to vegetarianism. Therefore the cow and bear will graze together and the little child will have no reason to fear.

So my decision to join the ranks of vegetarianism is biblical. Ergo, I’m ready for the reign of Jesus in the new Earth. I’m sure I won’t suffer eternal damnation for my premature choice. In addition, I don’t believe carnivores will suffer judgment; except possible health consequences.

If you really love steaks and hamburgers you’d better get to eating. There will be no more carnivorous dinners when Jesus comes again. The new Earth will be peaceful, danger-free and full of life, not death. More proof that vegetarianism is biblical!

Milners in northern ArizonaMy husband, a meat and potatoes Texan, installs solar farms across this beautiful country. I take care of us, write and design websites. We are full-time RVers. Our dog, Spotty, and our cat, Princess travel with us. They are both carnivores.

This lifestyle is a dream come true for me. Our RV is a one-bedroom apartment on wheels. Eventually we will also have a camper van for weekend exploring.

The Lord continues to bless us so greatly with the beauty of this awesome land. God has truly blessed America. Don’t miss it!
